BA A 27 year old man who has AIDS comes to the infectious disease clinic for the evaluation of skin lesions. Skin examination reveals multiple red to red/purple nodules and papules on several parts of his body. A CT scan of the abdomen reveals multiple nodular lesions within the spleen and liver. Histopathology of the skin lesions shows proliferation of the vascular endothelial cells, evidence of angiogenesis, and specialized staining shows clumps of bacilli present in the lesion. The lesions slowly resolves over a period of 6 to 8 weeks with an extended course of azithromycin antibiotic. Which one of the following is most likely the cause of this patient’s disease?
