In the Islamic tradition, prophethood is not about receiving a new revelation for a specific group of people, but repeating a message that God has sent before but that humanity has forgotten. That message is universal, so that, in theory, no prophet is considered to be greater than another. The role of the prophet is to convey the message and focus attention on the One who sent it. That said, within the Islamic tradition, Muhammad clearly holds a unique status as God’s final messenger.
