Check all of the relevant class concepts that are included in the story. Jody is 55 and was recently diagnosed with cardiovascular disease. Her mom and dad both died in their 60s from heart disease. Carol is overweight and used to smoke a half-pack-a-day of cigarettes for 15 years but she has been tobacco free for the past 3 years. Her previous partner was a heavy smoker as well, which had a large influence on her smoking behaviors. She works a maintenance job at a local factory. She makes 30% of what the Median household income is (i.e., third of $74,000). Under her current working conditions her hearing has become jeopardized because of the noisiness of the factory machines. Additionally, although she goes beyond her required tasks and company expectations in production, she has not received any sort of additional compensation or significant reward that would balance her efforts and long-standing employment with the company. Previously Jody found herself paying more than 30% of her income on her housing expenses, which was unsustainable. At times she was stuck deciding between cutting down on energy costs in her house, paying for her medication or buying sufficient nutritious food. Therefore, she decided to move in with roommates, however, they often bring over other guests/family members who stay for extended periods of time and she has been sharing the housing with multiple families. Additionally, some of her roommate’s smoke cigarettes inside of the house. Jody doesn’t have a car and has a 45-minute commute via the bus to her local supermarket. Although she can get food at the local convenient store that is a 5-minute walk, they often don’t sell fresh produce and the items are usually more costly. On the other hand, there are several fast-food chains in her area including a Wendy’s and McDonald’s within a 5-minute walk. Jody does not qualify for government subsidy like an EBT card for food purchases.
