In the poem “Porphyria’s Lover” by Robert Browning, (p. 696) the speaker tells the reader that he killed Porphyria because it was what she (and even God) wanted to happen, but there is a good bit of evidence in the poem that suggests this is not true.  Why did the speaker actually kill Porphyria?
