Kelli tells you that she has begun therapy but she doesn’t know what kind.  She calls it “talk therapy” and says that it is structured and may only last 10-15 sessions.  Each week she has homework.  Each week her therapist sets an agenda.  Her therapist teaches her how to identify when a thought is illogical or irrational and they challenge illogical thoughts.  For example, this week for homework she noticed she had the thought “if I tell my friends I am in therapy they will hate me,” so now she is sharing with you that she’s in therapy to test how logical this thought is.  She and her therapist focus on her present problems, not unpacking things from the past unless they directly inform a thought she has now.  What kind of therapy is most like what Kelli describes?
