You work in an acute care hospital and are prepping to see a 73 year old female who has been in the hospital for 1 week with an acute infection. She has been primarily bedridden and is very weak. During your subjective exam, the patient states she feels very tired and fatigued. She feels as though she can only sit up for a few minutes before getting tired and has not tried walking any sort of distance. She does also complain of an ache in her leg and complains that it feels warm. Objectively you look at her right leg and it is very swollen and red and she is tender to palpation of her posterior calf.   Which condition are you concerned about and what screening tool will you use for that diagnosis?
