This meeting of New Englanders, many of them Federalists, denounced the War of 1812.  Party delegates secretly debated and rejected the idea of succession. They had just adjourned when news of Jackson’s victory in New Orleans and the peace treaty became known.  They did succeed at drafting amendments to be added to the Constitution.  However, the Federalists Party would never recover.
