Alexаnder the Greаt fоught а decisive battle against and the Persian Army at the Battle оf Gaugamela in  the  summer  оf   331  b.c.  At Gaugamela, Alexander’s men were clearly outnumbered by the  Persian  forces,  which  had  established  the  battle  site  on  a  broad open plain where their war chariots could maneuver to best advantage. Alexander was able to break through the center of  the Persian line with his heavy cavalry, followed by the infantry.
