The Athenian Players has asked you (yes, YOU!) to direct a production for the Fall ‘15. The Players have asked that you select one of the following plays we read this semester: Lysistrata, The Cherry Orchard, Waiting for Lefty, or Topdog/Underdog. They have requested that you explore one of the artistic movements, philosophies, or “-isms” that we’ve discussed in class for your chosen production. For your essay explain which play you would choose to direct? Explore and discuss the specific elements of your selected artistic movement or “-ism” that you would focus on in your production, using specific examples from the play and discussions in class. Could there be any problematic issues that your choice of play would present, based on the fact that the play will be produced in Alabama? Despite these problematic concerns, why would you still produce the play? Be sure to cite specific examples from the texts to support your essay.
