We discussed several case studies of mutation disorders. This is a very rare disorder caused by a point mutation that activates a deletion of nearly 50 amino acids of the lamin A protein found in the nuclear membrane. The syndrome affects children by causing an 8-10x accelerated rate of aging. The average lifespan is only about 13 years with an overall effect of cachexia, hair loss, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, and other aging-related conditions.
