Policies that may help reduce the pay gap include: 1) building horizontal job ladders in occupations dominated by women, 2) increasing the costs (i.e., the negative sanctions) applied to employers that discriminate based on gender, 3) shift gender socialization so that doing housework isn’t associated with femininities and not doing housework isn’t associated with masculinities, and 4) change the structure of work to have more family-friendly and gender equitable family leave policies and work flexibility.
