During the stage in item 4, Mark spent time learning about his multicultural background. He talked with his Dominican grandmother about the struggles she experienced growing up in the Dominican Republic and the United States. His father talked about his struggles trying to make it as a Puerto Rican. Mark was angry about the discrimination they both experienced and distanced himself from his White friends including his White girlfriend. After some time, Mark realized that he spent too much time being angry and not trusting White people. “There’s good and bad in all groups,” he thought.
