A 57-year-old male was admitted with active esophageal and gastric variceal bleeding. He was initially stabilized with blood products and started on octreotide to reduce portal blood flow. At the time of endoscopy, bleeding was not controlled so a decision was made to use balloon tamponade (Minnesota Tube) to provide manual compression. What are nursing interventions? Frequent oral care and nasal care. Monitoring for esophageal rupture. Check the balloons for patency before insertion. Use a sphygmomanometer to maintain the desired pressure of the esophageal balloon.
