Mr. Ian Cohen, who only speaks Spanish, is newly diagnosed with an ulcer and needs education about his condition and medications before he is discharged to his home. Mr. Cohen lives with his partner, David, who also does not speak English. Identify which techniques and/or assistive devices may be introduced prior to Mr. Cohen’s discharge to support his learning and promote a safe transition home. Recognize that standard education regarding Mr. Cohen’s medications and condition may not be effective at this time; therefore, do not provide education to Mr. Cohen or his caregiver. Use Tele Translation devices that incorporate audio and visual elements to enhance understanding of both verbal and nonverbal aspects of education and discharge instructions. Give verbal and written healthcare and discharge information in their native language. Explain healthcare and discharge information in English.
