Case #9 (Questions 29-32) Age: 62 Sex: male Race: African American Medical History: Acute myelogenic leukemia treated 8 months ago Medications: cyclosporine (immunosuppressant); OTC pain reliever for tooth ache Dental History: The soft tissue exam revealed a white patch on the attached gingiva adjacent to #13-5.  Further questioning revealed that the client had a toothache and had placed 3 pain relievers on the area overnight. Chief complaint: “Pain in the top right area.” Clinical Appearance: The buccal tissue is necrotic and white.  When the white area sloughs away, an underlying ulcer is seen.  The lesion is painful.
