The use of laboratory animals in research for the advancement of veterinary medicine and human medicine is not always received positively. My hope is that this course will give you students an inside view of how important these animals’ roles are and how evolved the welfare and care of these animal “heroes” has become as a result of many agencies working diligently to establish regulations, principles, and policies for the care and use of laboratory animals. This week’s discussion question is a personal one. There is no right or wrong answer: Do you believe animals have rights?
