CASE #33: Peter is a 70-year-old male who presents to the ER with complaints of sharp chest pains and is concerned that it might be a heart attack. Patient states that he has a “burning pain in the middle of his chest” that occurs after eating, especially a large meal. Upon questioning, he admits to experiencing regurgitation as well as difficulty swallowing and “getting food down.” He also states that it has begun to experience frequent nocturnal awakenings due to the pain.
