The ICF Model This essay will require students to reflect on the ICF model (specifically the contextual factors that impact human functioning) and attempt to apply the concepts of environmental and personal factors to two different case studies. Students will then be asked to reflect on the differences and similarities between the two cases. A traditional paragraph format is required and responses will provided in three separate paragraphs based on the prompts and structure provided below. Paragraph 1 (3 points): Carol’s Case (2-3 sentence minimum) 1. Reflect on our prior case study from Quiz 5: Carol is a 38-year-old. mother of two who has been recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). Carol has been experiencing a variety of related symptoms, including extreme fatigue, muscle weakness, and balance problems. Carol is a third-grade teacher and lives in a multi-level home with her husband and children. They have a two-year-old golden retriever named “Sunny” who has a lot of energy, requiring daily walks in the park. In Carol’s free time, she enjoys reading, gardening, and spending quality time with her family. 2. Identify at least two potential environmental factors that might impact Carol’s functioning in her home, at work, or in the community. 3. Marshall is a 12 year old boy who lives with his grandparents and his older sister. Marshal was born with cerebral palsy and has had to manage spasticity, challenges with walking, and has had some recent falls over the past year. He is preparing to transition to a larger multi-level middle school, with a larger number of students, and would like to participate in yearbook and the inclusive soccer program. His older sister will be an 8th grader at the middle school next year. 5. Identify at least two potential environmental factors that might impact Marshall’s functioning at school. 6. Identify one potential personal factor that might impact Marshall’s experience living with this disability. Paragraph 3 (4 points): Compare and Contrast Cases (3-4 sentence minimum) 7.
