A 42-year-old patient is at a wedding reception. They have a known history of “Schatzki Ring” (a narrowing at the bottom of the esophagus) but have not needed treatment in years. During the toasts, the patient eats a large piece of roast beef and immediately stops talking, stands up, and clutches their chest. The client cannot swallow, and is extremely uncomfortable, distressed, and states they feel a pressure sensation “right at the bottom of their breastbone.” Vitals are stable: HR 90, BP 130/80, O2 98%. Airway is patent. They can breathe and talk, but cannot swallow secretions.The provider orders an endoscopy. While waiting for the diagnostic study to be performed, the physician orders Glucagon 1 mg IVP in an attempt to dislodge the food bolus. The nurse knows the purpose of glucagon administration is to:
