A 46-year old female with a history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, prediabetes, morbid obesity (BMI 44), depression and OA of the knees, presents for a routine check up. Her most recent lab work shows a fasting plasma glucose = 152 and HbA1c = 6.8. She is very frustrated with her inability to lose weight over the years. She has tried Weight Watchers and most recently the Noom weight loss plan (It was too expensive and she gained the weight back). Due to her knees and her weight, she is unable to walk any significant distance. She is adamantly opposed to gastric bypass as she has a good friend “who went through all that and then gained the weight back.” The NP discusses the recent promising medication-assisted weight loss data and the drug that will also control the diabetes.
