A group of daredevils pendulum swung off the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in the 1990s. Starting from rest, four individuals jumped from the road way and swung down to the water. The length of the rope, L, was slightly less than the height of the bridge, h*, allowing for the jumpers to swing slowly to a stop and be picked up by a waiting speedboat. That was the plan… Unfortunately the jump-lead didn’t take EGM3401 and miscalculated the maximum tension in the cable using a static, and not dynamic, calculation method.
