Alport syndrome (AS) is a genetic disease in which a mutation affects the kidneys, the ears, and the eyes. The syndrome causes kidney disease as well as deafness. Affected men in the family died early as a result of their kidney problems; whereas, females lived until old age and showed mild symptoms. The gene responsible for Alport syndrome is located on the X chromosome. Susan and Philip have 2 children.
