CASE #47: Eric is an 8-year-old male who is brought to the ER by his mother with concerns over the progressing lethargy and weakness the patient is exhibiting. She states that he has been having reoccurring nose bleeds and bleeding of the gums and reports that he seems to be “sick all of the time.” A physical exam reveals areas of bruising as well as swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits and groin. Bloodwork shows a WBC count of 221,000/mcl. (Normal count is 4,000-11,000/mcl). What is your initial diagnosis?
