CASE #52: Ellen is an obese 70-year-old female who presents to the ER because she states “my doctor can’t see me for another 3 weeks and I’m tired of hurting.” Patient reports that she has been experiencing bilateral knee pain that becomes “worse when it rains” and is lessened slightly with ibuprofen. Patient states that climbing stairs is often difficult and her joints are most stiff when she has been sitting or lying for some time. Crepitus is heard during joint flexion and extension bilaterally. What is your initial diagnosis?
