Case study: Patient: A 32-year-old G2P1 woman at 38 weeks gestation presents to the labor and delivery unit for induction of labor due to gestational hypertension. Initial Assessment: Vitals: Blood pressure 150/90 mmHg, heart rate 90 bpm, respiratory rate 18 breaths/min, temperature 98.6°F (37°C), oxygen saturation 98% on room air. The patient progresses very slowly at first and then starts to progress until the patient suddenly develops severe dyspnea, tachycardia, and hypotension. BP drops to 90/68, heart rate 110, and pulse oximetry is 90%. The client develops bleeding from multiple sites (e.g. IV sites, incisional sites, vagina). What is the nurses first priority based on these assessment findings when caring for this patient who has developed an intrapartum complication?
