William has a great respect for authority. He is a model citizen who believes that it is important for one to follow the rules of society, because “those are the rules and who am I to question the rules!” A new law was made in his community that stated that persons who were gay could not live together. William’s next-door neighbors were a gay couple that had been together for over fourteen years. Because he felt it was his obligation to follow the laws, William turned in his neighbors to the police. The couple was arrested, jailed and subsequently one died in prison. William said when asked about his actions, “I had no problem with them, actually I liked them. But it was my duty to follow the law regardless of what I believed!” William is on what level of moral development?

This condition is caused by the chicken pox virus (herpes zoster). After one has chicken pox the virus migrates to the spine and lives there indefinitely. When the immune system weakens, emotional stress occurs, or the person has immunodeficiency or cancer the virus reactivates. It has been estimated that up to 1,000,000 cases of the condition occur each year in the U.S. The sufferer can have pain for more than a week before the virus manifests and pain can be intense. The sensation of the condition can be itching, tingling, burning, constant aching, or a deep, shooting pain. Other nonspecific symptoms that can occur at the same time are fever, chills, headache, or upset stomach. There is a vaccination for this condition and older persons are encouraged to be vaccinated.

Oliver has had an unpleasant day. He missed his train into the city and was late to work. He missed an important meeting and was yelled at and threatened by his boss. He missed lunch because he was trying to play catchup all day from being late. He went to the machine in the break room and lost his money trying to by a coke and Cheetos. He stayed later than usual to finish an assignment at work and his wife called him telling him to hurry home because their son had been written up at school and they needed to talk about the meeting with the teacher the next day. When Oliver got home his dinner was cold and a chicken dish that he did not like much. Oliver slammed the door to the bedroom and screamed at his son. He aimed a kick at the dog who was too quick for him so he missed and hit the chair. The day ended with Oliver yelling at his wife for the miserable day he had. This demonstrates which Freudian defense mechanisms?

Simon and Rebeka have always been extremely hardworking and motivated by their careers and the prestige it has brought them. Simon has relished his work and has defined himself as a corporate lawyer and by his excellent trial record and high fees. Rebeka, a college professor and researcher has balanced her advanced education, career, marriage and family as the natural consequence of her life. Both would agree that they have sacrificed much for their careers and their prominence in their respective fields. Simon and Rebeka own an expensive home and are very proud of their hard work to keep it as a hub of family activity. Although the couple has had rough patches in their marriage, they have remained together unlike Simon’s brother and sister who are both divorced and remarried. Rebeka’s brother is presently single, but has been married twice. The couple is community minded and participates in numerous community outreach activities, as well a being involved in their synagogue. Rebeka’s mother, Hannah was the center of her childhood home and although having only a high school education was active in the family business. Her parents and their friends were rarely divorced and remain as pillars of their community. Rebeka and Simon often wonder about the fate of their grandchildren, whom they fear lack a strong work ethic and commitment to their careers. You would assume that this couple is from what generation?
