We rаn аn experiment оn the height thаt yarrоw (a flоwering plant) grow at different elevations on a mountain. We hypothesized that due to warmer weather at the lower elevations, that these plants would grow taller. We hypothesized that due to cold weather and longer duration of snow, the plants at the highest elevations would be stunted, shorter than the same species grown We compared mean yarrow height at high, medium and low elevations. The mean height at low elevations was 12cm, at medium elevations was 10cm and at high elevations was 6cm. To analyze our data, we completed t-tests. We found that the t-value for probability (p) to be 0.15 when comparing low and medium elevations. We found the p-value to be 0.0089 when comparing the high to medium elevations. Using the information above, as well as your knowledge and practice from lab and the lab manual, answer the following questions to the best of your ability. A) in your own words, describe what a t-test is, and when it is good to use. Use 1-2 complete sentences. B) write 1-2 sentences describing the results of this experiment in terms of our t-test statistical analyses. Were our hypotheses supported or rejected? C) write one sentence in conclusion. What can we learn about plants and biology from this experiment?
