Pleаse review my Lаte wоrk /retаkes pоlicy. Hоw many outlier tokens can you request? Below are my expectations regarding the timely submission of work. All assignments are due on the date listed in the Course Schedule. However, most assignments have a Grace Period. Practice exercises, quizzes, bonus credit assignments, and DARs, regardless of due date, may be submitted any time through 11:59:00 pm on Sunday following their due date with no penalty and no questions asked. Technological disruptions are not acceptable excuses for late or incomplete work. Documents uploaded to Canvas will be considered FINAL. Blank, corrupted, or erroneous uploads will be graded. There are some dropped assignments, retakes, and revisions permitted. Practice exercises can be taken any time and repeated as many times as needed. Two lowest/missing scores are dropped. Quizzes are available to take two times. Two lowest/missing scores are dropped. Both Data Analysis Reports may be revised and resubmitted (some exceptions apply). Outlier Tokens. A statistical outlier is an observation that substantively differs from all others. You may encounter a situation that deviates from the norm in your own life preventing you from completing schoolwork such as, personal issues, minor illnesses, or maintaining general work/life balance. It's ok! In this class, you can make use of 2 (two) “Outlier Tokens.” Please review your options and visit the Outlier Token Request Form. Options are as follows: Extension on Data Analysis Report. This token will provide you a one-week extension to submit a Data Analysis Report. This option is best for technical difficulties, procrastination, or if you have a busy week. Timely requests only. No matter when the request is made, the extension period ends on the Friday following the original due date for the assignment. Make up or retake a quiz. You may have missed a quiz and need to make it up, or you may decide to retake a quiz for a higher score. For any single quiz, you will be granted a third attempt and extension to complete it through the end of the semester on Sunday, Dec 7th. This request can be made anytime, for any quiz, through Monday, Dec 1st. Extra Credit. The incentive to complete your work on time. One remaining token will allow you to increase your total score by 5 points. Two tokens will increase your total score by 10 points. No need to submit a request. This option will be applied up to two (2) times to any student at the end of the term based on the number of remaining tokens. Attendance and participation. Statistics takes time and practice so please attend class regularly. However, life happens. Some common scenarios, along with how I handle them, are outlined below: Minor unplanned absences. If you miss a lesson because of personal reasons, (e.g., internet is out, work issues, a wedding, doctor’s appointment, a brief illness, life disruption, a party, travel, or relocation) it is your responsibility to work ahead, take advantage of the late-work options built into the class, or request the application of an Outlier Token. Planned absences. If you plan on missing a due date, excluding the grace period, because of scheduled events like military service, religious holidays, or university-sponsored activities, you must send me applicable documentation, a list of dates, affected assignments, and anticipated make-up dates during the first week the term. (A minimum of 1 week before the affected date for emergent events.) Major unplanned absences. If you miss a lesson, excluding the grace period, because of serious emergent events, such as you/your partner’s/your child’s illness, hospitalization, injury, death, severe weather, or other crises, it is your responsibility to notify me within the next week, but that will vary. It is inhumane to request proof of death, so email notification will suffice. In all cases related to injury or illness, a physician’s note excusing you from work or school during assignment due dates will be required. I also work with university-level representatives from the VA, Victim’s Services, etc. After notification, I will ask you to compose a list of affected lessons and anticipated make-up dates. Incompletes. Incomplete grades are only given under extenuating circumstances and at my discretion. Students requesting an incomplete must have 80% of the course completed, and a passing grade, at the time of the request due before the last week of class. Instructor feedback and grading. Access your grades at any time using "Grades" in Canvas. Grades for quizzes should be produced immediately. Grades will be made available for discussions, exams, and data analysis reports about 5-to-10 weekdays after due date. Reports will come with rubrics and feedback. Reviewing or revising grades. If you feel that one of your assignments has been graded erroneously, you have the right to challenge that grade. After careful review of the rubric feedback, please compose an email with “Grade Discrepancy on (Assignment Name) as the subject. In the body of the message, include: (1) Assignment name and date; (2) a list of your specific problems that need to be addressed, including relevant scoring, rubric criteria, and rubric comments; (3) argumentation of why grade should be changed, including citations and support. Grades may be altered higher or lower. Must be submitted within one week after the grade is posted.
