It is cold and flu season and you just finished up your shift; it was so busy you didn’t have a break all night (you didn’t even have a chance to wash your hands, let alone put on gloves). On your way to the car, you see a table in front of The Cheesecake Girl offering up “free samples.” You’re so hungry you’re not thinking straight, and before you realize how many people have sneezed on those cookies and cakes all day (and your filthy hands, remember?), you’ve already eaten enough samples to warrant a judgmental look from the employee behind the table. You just infected yourself with several bugs including the seasonal flu virus. Please describe your immune response to this pathogen challenge. Answers that will receive full credit will include a detailed description of: a) immune cells and tissues/organs of the lymphoid system that may be involved in mounting this immune response (5 points). b) a description of molecules that may be involved in directing the immune response (including specific examples) (5 points). c) at least one description of a cell : cell interaction, describing the receptors involved and the functional/effector consequences of that interaction (5 points).
