Yоu аre the prоcurement mаnаger fоr Eye in the Sky telescopes.  Your firm makes small, high quality telescopes and binoculars which use cutting-edge optics and specialized materials.  Because Eye in the Sky sells to governments and militaries, not meeting customer demand would be a disaster.   You are worried about some of the products you purchase and the vendors from whom you buy these products.  Costs  have been rising and making purchases has become administratively difficult.  You are especially concerned about the following products that you purchase. The fasteners are a standard item that you buy from several suppliers.  Unfortunately, these suppliers and others you are considering using, insist on using purchase orders for the numerous fasteners you purchase.  You have a buyer dedicated to interacting with these vendors and writing these purchase orders. Eye in the Sky's products are known for their extensive use of carbon fibre which makes them light and strong.  There are only two suppliers of carbon fibre tubes and both are major players in their industry.  It's impossible for your firm to play one off against the other.  Lately, prices have been fluctuating, rising almost daily.  These tubes are an expensive component for your products. Because of the unique design of your products, the optics aren't a major expense.  However, these optics are unique and you have only found one supplier for them.  Rumour has it that Lenses 'R Us is having financial difficulties and may raise prices soon.  Thank goodness, the pneumatic actuators used in your telescopes and binoculars are not scarce.  There are many suppliers and their prices are relatively stable.  However, these actuators are still expensive and any increase in price will hit your profitability hard.   Using the appropriate model, in terms of the impact on profit and the upstream risk, categorize these products.  How should you handle your purchasing and the relationships with your vendors?
