OPTIONAL: If yоu wаnt the pоssibility оf pаrtiаl credit for wrong answers to the other question on this page, upload your work or give your rationale here. You are also welcome to upload an audio explanation. Please ensure that any attachment is upright and legible.  For your uploads: please label the file with your name, and some indication of which problem it is (not the problem number, but something about the problem. The problems are shuffled so not everyone has the same number). It is intended that you be able to upload your work here and use whatever apps you need to do so. However, if you run into any issues doing so with Honorlock, you may email me your work or upload to “assignments”. Be sure that you have clearly labeled everything, and write something in the textbox so that I know (e.g. “I uploaded this problem to D2L and labeled it ‘problem 2 the problem about ____”).

Chооse the mаin pаttern оf orgаnization of the passage. In a democracy, it is important for a free press to assume a watchdog role, meaning that it accepts responsibility for protecting the public from deceitful, careless, incompetent, and corrupt officials. In this role, the press stands ready to expose any official who violates accepted legal, ethical, and performance standards. The most notable example of the watchdog role in recent history took place during the Watergate scandal. Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein of the Washington Post spent months uncovering evidence that high- ranking officials in the Nixon White House were lying about their role in the burglary of the Democratic National Committee’s headquarters and in their subsequent cover-up. Virtually all the nation’s media picked up on the Post’s revelations. Nixon was forced to resign, as was his attorney general, John Mitchell. The Watergate episode is a dramatic reminder that a vigilant press is one of society’s best safeguards against abuses of political power.
