Patient is an otherwise healthy 35-year old female who suffered a right traumatic transfemoral amputation with no comorbidities. BMI is 21. Surgery was 2 days ago and there are no signs of infection. The surgeon performed an equal length anterior/posterior flap procedure and closed the wound with sutures and staples. Prior to the amputation, patient was a physical therapist working full time in an outpatient orthopedic setting. She lives with her husband and 2 children (8 and 10) in a split-level home. She works-out 5 days/week (treadmill walking, elliptical, spin bike, lifts weights), is an avid reader, and enjoys being an active mom. The physical therapist is teaching the patient to transfer from bed to commode chair. Where should the physical therapist instruct the patient to put the mobile commode in relation to the patient?
