SAT Scores (Part 2): The following table provides some data about SAT scores from 2015. The scoring on the exam has since changed, which is why it is labeled as “old” SAT scores. (A) We will assume that the mean and median are the same for this data. The standard deviation for this data is 323. Using this and your median (from SAT Scores – Part 1, part (C)), give an interval in which about the middle 68% of test takers scored, using our understanding of the standard deviation. Explain what this interval means in this context. (B) Describe carefully where on the graph below you would label: – the median (which we are assuming is the same as the mean), – the two ends of the interval you determined in part (A), – and the standard deviation.
