Scene Description Police execute a search warrant on a large storage warehouse suspected of being used to hide narcotics. A trained detector dog team is deployed. During the search, the dog scratches at one stack of boxes. When opened, the boxes contain clothing. Lab testing of the clothing later reveals trace amounts of cocaine residue. In another part of the warehouse, the dog shows no response near a locked cabinet. When officers open it, they discover packaged narcotics. The defense attorney later argues in court that detector dogs are unreliable because the dog “missed” the cabinet and falsely alerted on the clothing.
