Suppose an E. coli bacterium has a mutation in its lacI gene so that the protein it encodes is less able to bind to the DNA molecule. What effect would you expect that mutation to have on the bacterium’s rate of synthesis of beta-galactosidase relative to a normal (wild type) specimen? A. The mutation would result in an increase in the rate of beta-galactosidase synthesis relative to wild type B. The mutation would result in a decrease in the rate of beta-galactosidase synthesis relative to wild type C. The mutation would have no effect on the rate of beta-galactosidase synthesis relative to wild type D. The mutation would prevent lactose from entering the cell
