Hellо Students, I included аll 5 insteаd оf limiting it tо 3. So, Choose ONE of the five topics below аnd write your essay.   Explain and evaluate utilitarianism. Provide at least three strong arguments for or against it. For example, you could argue that utilitarianism does not explain the whole of morality because it a) sometimes violates your sense of justice/rights, b) disregards motives and acts, and c) is not practical because we cannot always know the future.   Explain and/or evaluate deontology. Provide at least three strong arguments for or against it. When explaining Kant’s system, be sure to explain two formulations of the categorical imperative clearly and accurately (e.g. universalizing and never treat as a mere means).   Explain and evaluate natural law. For example, you could begin by discussing why natural law is considered an objective theory based on human nature and reason, and provide your reasoned evaluation of its validity. Next, explain the universal goods that are believed to arise from human nature and reason (such as the preservation of life, courage, and the need for self-control), and offer your reasoned opinion. Finally, you could explore how natural law serves as a stronger foundation for the concept of human rights and offer your opinion. *Alternatively, you could analyze how natural law evaluates sexual practices, considering whether its perspective on procreation and human nature provides a clear moral framework for such issues, and offer your opinion on its implications.   Explain the two parts of the Euthyphro Dilemma: a) the issue with claiming that "God commands it because it is good," and b) the problem with asserting that "it is good because God commands it." What are the philosophical challenges presented by each position? Next, evaluate at least one attempt to resolve the dilemma (see second video in eCampus for one such attempt).   Explain and evaluate three themes in Buddhism or Taoism. For example, you might explore and assess: a) The Four Noble Truths, b) The Eightfold Path, and c) Nirvana. You could then analyze how the Eightfold Path aligns with the concept of virtue ethics. Be sure to provide a reasoned defense or critique of each theme.     Grading Criteria    Clarity and Organization (30%): The essay is well-structured with clear, logically organized paragraphs. Each paragraph focuses on one main idea and contributes to the overall argument. Both the Introduction and Conclusion paragraphs are included. The Introduction presents a clear thesis statement and previews/organizes the paper well.     Content (70%): The student demonstrates an accurate or insightful understanding of the content and answers all parts of the prompt. The analysis is free from logical fallacies, offering a compelling and well-reasoned discussion of the topic.    Length: 750-1000 words    *A more detailed list of the grading criteria is in the syllabus.
