We know that some people are more prone to develop autoimmune disorders than others, for example 75%-80% of all autoimmune cases are in females (though, for some specific diseases the split is 50/50). Furthermore, overall incidence of autoimmunity appears to be on the rise, with nearly 1 in 10 people affected. Design a study that would seek to characterize the differences between prone and non-prone people in adulthood. The goal is to design a study that can provide data to pinpoint mechanisms for further study underlying autoimmune predisposition. Be mindful and specific of the population(s), type of sample(s), the methods, and the appropriateness of comparisons. Describe the kinds of experiments and data analysis you would want to see.
