Fоllоwing the Christiаn cоnquest of Jerusаlem in 1099, some Christiаn warriors remained in the Holy Land and formed four small kingdoms known as [BLANK-1]. These included Jerusalem, Edessa, Tripoli, and Antioch. Christian warriors became rulers of these territories where they set up institutions to govern the local Muslim populaces. They built castles and fortified towns to protect against future Muslim attempts at reconquest and they kept a flow of supplies and pilgrims open with other parts of Europe. After Muslims under the guidance of Saladin retook Jerusalem in 1187, the Christian territories remained but became more important as economic ports of trade than as truly important religious or political sites.

Confucius reflected that since people owe their very existence to their parents, they should reciprocate by respecting their parents, making efforts to please them, honoring their memories, and placing the interests of the family line above personal preference. This concept provided a moral basis for the Chinese family that continues to the present day.
