A mоvie studiо invited а representаtive аudience tо a preliminary screening of a movie. At the end of the movie the members of the audience were asked to answer a survey comparing the ending of the movie with two alternative endings. Dawg Town Dog Food is a dog food company located in Cleveland, Ohio.  They recently hired you as an intern.  The company makes three different kinds of dog food; Puppy, Adult and Senior.  The difference between the three types is in the nutrients they are sprayed with during the manufacturing process.  This results in the different types of food being slightly different colors.  Those are the only differences in the types of feed.  All the dog food is packaged into 50 lb bags.  The bags must weigh between 47 and 53 pounds.  The packaging facility runs three 8-hour shifts, 5 days a week.  Each week they package a different type of food.  They have 2 automated bagging systems the D345 and a new one called the F101.  Both machines are run for the length of every shift, every day of operation.  Every Monday, before the first shift begins, the machines are calibrated to ensure that the bags are being filled according to specification. Lately, it has been noted that although the plant is still receiving the same amount of food each week, there has been a decrease in the number of bags filled.  Data was collected over a three-week time period. Each week a different type of food was packaged.  During Week 1 it was Adult food, Week 2 it was Puppy food and during week 3, Senior food was packaged.  During every hour of operation a bag that had been filled by each machine was weighed.  A total of 720 bags were sampled.  None of the bags weighed less than 47 lbs but 108 bags weighed over 53 lbs.  This means the sigma level for the process is 2.5.  A sample of the data is shown below. You will be asked to interpret the charts, develop an hypothesis concerning the cause of the defects and suggest a course of action.  Answer "Yes" indicating that you have read and understand these instructions.

You are at your weekly LSS team meeting and Jane is presenting a control chart and capability calculations for Process X.  She says, “Process X is in control, but it is still not capable of meeting specifications. Our USL (upper specification limit) is 100, and our LSL is 90. We need to adjust the control limits, by recalculation if necessary, so it meets specs.” Below is a picture of the control chart she's looking at.
