ABC Site Cоntrаctоr hаs а cоntract to complete all of the earthwork and grading on the South Side Mall project. The contract calls for a balanced site (no dirt left on site... either haul in what fill is needed or haul off any excess dirt). The project experienced unforeseen rock outcroppings during excavations before reaching the required elevation for subgrade and foundations. These areas of rock were not discovered during the development of the geotechnical report. The owner has agreed to provide the blasting expert to break up the rock but handling and hauling away is still the responsibility of the sitework subcontractor. Question Based on this situation, is there a justification for a change order on behalf of the sitework subcontractor?
