Legаl & Ethicаl Anаlysis, and Strategic Implicatiоns: Scenariо A DePоppy Bioscience (DPB) has just come up with a revolutionary treatment for opiod addiction. However, it's effectiveness varies significantly across the population. During clinical trials, it was found that for patients with certain health characteristics, the treatment was very effective, but for patients with certain other health characteristics, the treatment was actually detrimental in treating opiod addiction. Unfortunately, determining whether a specific patient falls into one or the other group requires a sequence of somewhat painful diagnostic tests, spaced over more than one week. During clinical trials, DPB ran into significant difficulties in getting potential patients to show up for all of the necessary diagnostic tests. Patients that had the greatest likelihood of completing these diagnostic tests were those that had the most regular and consistent communication from their personal physician. Consequently, DPB is considering using an incentive scheme where physicians, who refer their patients to DPB for these diagnostic tests, will receive a reward from DPB that increases with the percentage of the diagnostic sequence that the patient has completed.
