An 85-year-old female presents to your clinic with a primary complaint of right hip pain. She has been referred from her primary care physician. She has had no recent trauma or falls. She takes anti-hypertensive medication and has diet controlled diabetes but is otherwise self-reported as “healthy as a horse.” Her hip pain has been present for many years but has recently gotten worse. She reports that it has begun to interfere with her ability to clean her house, go on walks with her dog, and volunteer at the soup kitchen where she loads the shelves with donated canned goods. Her only other report, during your thorough questioning, is that she used to play competitive baseball and was a “star pitcher” with The Rockford Peaches in The All American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1952-1954.
