An 87-year-old male lost control of his car and hit a building. When emergency medical services (EMS) arrived, the client was difficult to arouse and could not follow commands. EMS applied a cervical collar, administered sedation, inserted an endotracheal tube, and transported him to the local critical access hospital. The emergency department (ED) assessment is as follows: The client’s vital signs are as follows: Temperature – 36.5°C Heart rate – 56 beats/min Respirations – 20 breaths/min per manual bag-valve-mask Blood pressure – 112/68 mmHg Oxygen saturation – 92% on manual bag-valve-mask with 100% FiO2 Select which nursing interventions below are Emergent (immediately necessary) or Non-Emergent (not immediately necessary) for the client’s care at this time.
