Questions

Answer оnly 1 оf the fоllowing Questions: First Question Plаnts аnd аnimals have evolved a wide variety of chemical toxins as defensive, predatory, and survival strategies, many of which pose significant risks to humans and other animals. Using information from Chapter 26, compare and contrast plant and animal toxins with respect to their chemical nature, mechanisms of action, routes of exposure, and biological effects. In your essay, discuss how these toxins affect different organ systems, how dose and exposure route influence toxicity, and why understanding both plant and animal toxins is important in toxicology, medicine, agriculture, and environmental health. Be sure to: Include examples of both plant and animal toxins Discuss at least two different mechanisms of toxicity Compare poisonous vs. venomous exposures Explain how toxin effects can range from cellular to systemic levels Demonstrate synthesis of concepts rather than listing facts A strong response will clearly show how plant and animal toxins illustrate key toxicological principles taught in the course.     Second Question Animals across many taxonomic groups have evolved venom systems that function in defense, predation, or both. These venoms vary widely in their chemical composition, mechanisms of action, and physiological effects, but all illustrate important principles of toxicology. Using information from Chapter 26, discuss the major animal groups that include venomous organisms. In your essay, identify the different animal groups covered in class that contain venomous species, and for each group, describe at least one representative example of a venomous organism. Where appropriate, explain how the venom is delivered and briefly describe the type of toxic effect it produces. A strong essay will: Demonstrate awareness of the breadth of animal groups containing venomous species Provide specific examples from each group discussed Distinguish between venomous and poisonous organisms Highlight variation in venom composition and biological function Show synthesis of material rather than a simple list
