Assignment: Stop-and-Frisk, NYPD Policies, and Canine Drug Sniffing Case Law Introduction and Background Stop-and-frisk has influenced American policing for decades and remains one of the most debated law enforcement practices in the United States. It allows police officers to briefly detain individuals based on reasonable suspicion and, when justified, conduct a limited pat-down for weapons. This practice is rooted in the Fourth Amendment, which protects individuals from unreasonable searches and seizures, while still allowing law enforcement to maintain public safety.
