Reаd the scenаriо belоw.  Using the infоrmаtion from CARA’s Kit, determine what adaptations you would use to help the students overcome difficulties and display age-appropriate behavior.   See the example in the assignment instructions.  (9 points – point breakdown below) Scenario: You are teaching a large group lesson to a group of fourteen preschool aged children.  The large group lesson ranges from 20-30 minutes depending on the activity.  During this particular lesson, you are reading a book, emphasizing the concepts of print (author, illustrator, etc).  The book you read had lots of rhyming words in it, so you are talking about rhyming with the group.  While you are reading and after you are done reading, you notice that some of your students have a hard time sitting and are moving around on the carpet either playing or touching a friend near them.  Some of the students consistently talk throughout your lesson.  You also noticed that some of the students don’t understand the concept of rhyming and aren’t engaged in the activity.  How can you make adaptations so that the children will participate fully and as independently as possible? First, state what behavior issue you will be addressing. (1 point) Then, determine what type of activity is described in the scenario.  Activity choices are found on the top of pages 6-16 in CARA's Kit.   State the activity name (1 point) and the page number it is found on (0.5 point). Next, look at the given “Here’s the Situation” issues for the activity area you have chosen.  Decide which situation relates most closely to the provided scenario.  Type out the entire “Here’s the Situation” you have chosen (1 point) and the page number it is found on (0.5 point).  Finally, list the adaptation you have chosen from each level of the continuum. Review the adaptation suggestions given for that situation. They are under the heading labeled “Try This Adaptation”.  The adaptations are in the five colored columns.  To resolve the behavior issue in the scenario, choose at least one of the given adaptations for each of the five levels of adaptations from the situation you have chosen.  You do not need to come up with any ideas on your own.  Just choose from what is listed in the book. If the assistance column is blank in CARA’s Kit, simply type None.  Do NOT leave this level out or leave the adaptation for it blank Type out the name of the level (example: environment, activity/routine, materials, requirements/instructions, assistance) and the full adaptation you have chosen to address the behavior for each level.
