How did such differences between Athens and Sparta play out in the Persian (495-490) or Peloponnesian Wars (431- 404)? What was the legacy (consequence) of both Athenian and Spartan involvement in the Peloponnesian Wars? The decades between the Persian and Peloponnesian Wars have been called “the Golden Age of Athens,” during which time the Parthenon was built and Athenian wealth, power and influence flourished. What long standing consequences did this have for the Western World? Explain (in at least three ways) how Athenian politics, religion, philosophy, art or architecture influenced the civilizations that followed it. Does the Athenian Golden Age still have influence today? Why or why not? Religious innovations in India between 1500 and 480 BCE brought about the rise of Hinduism and Buddhism. Describe how the two religions are similar, as well as how they differ from one another. How did they influence politics? What were some differences between Indian religious traditions and those we’ve observed in the West. Use examples to support your arguments. The Shang and Zhou Dynasties (1520-256) contributed to the growth of Chinese civilization in astounding ways, and they laid the foundations for a still-enduring civilization. Name and define some of the achievements of the Shang and the Zhou Dynasties. What were the major schoolsof Philosophy that flourished under the Zhou? What did they say about the human condition? Use examples to support your arguments.
