I'm your father, and you must do as I ask." 2. Tommy, (age 13) wants to stay up late on a school night to finish watching a movie. His mom allows him stay up later, even though he must wake up and prepare for school in the morning. His mom thinks he will make the “correct” decision for himself and will learn from the experience. His mom will be sympathetic to the fact that Tommy is tired the next day and doesn’t want to go to school. However, his mom will not set a bedtime. 3. Jada's father sets rules for her, but she feels that when a rule seems unfair, she can discuss it with him. Even if he doesn't agree to change the rule, he at least listens to her opinions. 4. Aidan’s parent is returning home late from work and fails to make dinner for him. The parent tells Aidan to “eat whatever” if he is hungry. His parent does not engage in conversation about Aidan’s day or assist him in preparing a meal. This parent is too busy to check in with Aidan regarding school, or any extracurricular activities.
