The patient is a 44-year-old man who suffered a right CVA about 3 years ago. During active ROM testing of his upper extremities, he is able to lift his RUE overhead through full range of motion antigravity. When asked to lift his LUE overhead, he is able to achieve about 40 degrees of shoulder flexion, but the movement is in the flexor synergy pattern. Spasticity is just beginning to emerge. How would you characterize this patient’s motor performance based on Brunnstrom’s Stages of Recovery?
