After examining the signs and symptoms, Mr. James is diagnosed with tetanus. The symptoms of tetanus include painful muscle spasms, lockjaw (immovable jaw muscles), changes in blood pressure and heart rate, trouble swallowing, fever, and sweating (Tetanus symptoms and complications, 2019). It is caused by the Clostridium tetani bacteria which he likely contracted through his open wound. He is also more susceptible to the disease as he had no vaccinations against it.
